Pancas - Tejo Estuary Nature Reserve

The six kilometers of the Estradão de Pancas that define one of the boundaries of the Tejo Estuary Nature Reserve in Benavente are a privileged route for observing the landscapes and species of flora and fauna characteristic of the estuarine landscape. Running along the base of the Quaternary terrace that supports the heathland habitats, with cork oaks, stone pines, gilbardeiras and other typical species of flora, the landscape spreads out on the other side of the Estradão, through pasture land, agriculture or salt pans, which are supported by the flat alluvial soils of the lezíria. Along this route, whether by foot or car, you’ll certainly have the unique opportunity to observe the birds that use these protected territories on a daily basis. Bring binoculars!
